Frequently asked: Primers / Surface Treatments

Can I really skip sanding when using a no-roughing primer like R125A?

Yes for clean, mold-release-free dark rubber substrates. R125A relies on chemical etch from solvent + active resin to micro-pit the surface in place of mechanical sanding. Two conditions must hold: (1) the substrate is wiped of mold release with MEK or equivalent before priming, and (2) the assembly is bonded within the recommended open window after priming. For substrates with heavy mold release residue or aged surfaces, light sanding still gives the most reliable bond.
